Poole Round the Islands Race 2-3 August
The traditional Poole weekend is a great introduction to the pleasures of sea sailing and one where we have always encouraged members to attend, borrowing a club boat if necessary.
BTYC has a close relationship with Poole Yacht Club and for many years we have joined them for this excellent event. On Saturday we have two fairly leisurely races around all the Brownsea Islands and on Sunday we will organise a cruise and picnic, although there may be a further racing opportunity for the very keen.
For Saturday we will form the BTYC boats into teams to compete against Poole and Seahorse. This is followed by a dinner in the Poole Yacht club where friends and relatives are also welcome (Cost around £13 per head excluding wine. You need to select from the menu in advance.)
PYC has a nice slipway, secure storage for the boats and a fine club house.
This an event where we allow BTYC club boats to be used – You need a car with a tow-bar and to liaise with Liz Hall about borrowing a road trailer. A good place to find accommodation is www.pooletourism.com - but you need to book something now. Jim Faulkner and James Stafford can advise on good places.

Whyte & Mackay Earls Court Boat Show sponsor David Morse’s Paralympic Bid
BTYC member, 15 year-old, David Morse suffers from the rare condition Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita which limits the use of his lower limbs. In spite of this, David has already had a successful sailing career, starting at Barnet Youth Base in North West London when he was nine. David then joined BTYC Sailsports and sailed the Challenger trimaran – a fast but stable boat specifically designed for people with physical constraints.
Three seasons ago, David joined the Challenger Class Association and began racing the BTYC Challenger donated by ECI Partners, quickly moving from Bronze Class to Silver Class. He recently competed in the London Regatta at Greenwich, in the new Artemis 20, coming in a very respectable Second! David has also competed in the International Multihull Championships in Greece in June 2008 and has been selected for the Challenger Transition Squad (a pre-Paralympic training squad). He has also completed his first personal challenge - sailing single-handed across the Solent.
David has secured sponsorship from the Whyte & Mackay Earls Court Boat Show and had his own stand at the show (1 - 9 December 07) to launch his 2012 Paralympic campaign.
James Brooke, Managing Director of the Whyte & Mackay Earls Court Boat Show said, “David is an inspirational young man and we are delighted to be able to support him in his quest to take part in the 2012 London Paralympic Games.”
David symbolises all that is positive in disabled sailing and proves how hard work and dedication can achieve great results. He is incredibly focused and there is no stopping him!
He has his own website at http://www.davidmorsesailing.co.uk
