SAFE SAILING & WINDSURFING
Sailing is an adventurous sport and we take safety seriously. We review and update our club risk assessment each year. We do all we can to reduce risks to acceptable levels.
We encourage all adults to wear a buoyancy aid or buoyant windsurfing harness on the water. We require all youths to wear a buoyancy aid when on or near the water.
We have three safety boats, all fast dories, ideally equipped to handle dinghies or windsurfers that get into trouble or run out of wind - to recover crew and bring boats and boards home.
We have 2 RYA qualified powerboat instructors and regularly run courses for members to obtain RYA Level 1/2 Powerboat and RYA Safety Boat certificates. See course dates for details.
Our many qualified dinghy and windsurfing instructors have to have a valid first aid certificate and we run first aid courses, with external instructors, every year to keep everyone up to date. See course dates for details.
Because warmth and comfort are vital to safety, we also have a number of wetsuits and buoyancy aids. These are aimed at helping newcomers into the sport. Once members have made a commitment to sailing or windsurfing, we expect them to get their own gear, so freeing up ours for other people.
All our equipment conforms to national standards of quality and maintenance.
